Hi Dan, I've been reading your blog for several weeks now and have been enjoying it a lot. I was pleasantly surprised this morning to see you had written on one of my favorite subjects: web browsers. Here's a related article I wrote (before I started working at Opera) that you might be interested in (especially the last two-thirds of the article) : http://www.cjas.org/~leng/lainspotting/2005/09/aiming-for-second.html

PS: I talk about Lynx too, so I'm glad you mentioned it :)

My immediate reaction is that this is a bad, bad thing to do. Turnabout on those sites that have long preferred IE might feel good for a few seconds, but why lower oneself to the ghetto of browser non-support when it's possible to do better? This is just as uncool as when I go to sites like the former Writely which would accuse Safari of 'not supporting online word processing yet' when it was clearly their choice to not support Safari. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and if that's what these folks are willing to give people in exchange for getting a dig in at IE, then so be it.

If there was some funky code that involved rewriting for IE (PNG transparency or something similar) then it would be fair enough, though very foolish!
What is unacceptable is that it doesn't work in IE7 which does address alot of the issues with previous versions.
Looks like control through laziness to me! ;-)
